Where to overnight in Moscow in a hostel-like environment?

Option #1 Hostel “Asia”. Zelenodol’skaia ulitsa, dom 3/2

Metro station “Ryazanski prospect” (purple line, south-east direction)
Get off from the metro and just in 50 meters you’ll see a huge 15 floors building. This is hotel “Asia”. 13-15th floors are the hostel you need.
Price range: 10-15 USD per night
PRO: Easy to find, good living conditions, cheap, very friendly English speaking service.
CON: A bit far from city center

Option #2 Hotel “Zolotoy Kolos”. Yaroslavskaia ulitsa, dom 15/3

Metro station “VDNKh” (orange line, north direction)
Get off from the metro through the exit corresponding to THE LAST VAGON OF THE METRO TRAIN. Cross Kosmonavtov street (Ulitsa Kosmonavtov) and go for a short while along Prospect Mira. Squeezed between prospect Mira and Yaroslavskaia Street there is hotel “Zolotoi Kolos”.
Price range: 4-20 USD per night (Serbian volunteer says that 10 dollars is the min. price)
PRO: Easy to find, very good conditions, cheap
CON: Not always enough of free beds, often no English speaking service, not always friendly.

Option #3 Hostel “Nasledye”. Ulitsa Kosmonavtov, dom 2

Get off from the metro, cross Prospect Mira (Avenue of Peace), you’ll see Ulitsa Kosmonavtov (Cosmonauts’ street). House #2 is what you need.
Price range: 7-15 USD per night
PRO: Easy to find, suitable living conditions, cheap
CON: Not always enough of free beds, no English speaking service, not always friendly.

Option #4 Hostel “Guest House”. Ulitsa Bolshaia Pereyaslavskaya, dom 50

Take off from the metro, take ANY bus or trolleybus FROM the city center. You’ll travel a bit along Prospect Mira and then turn to the right (Banny Pereulok). Take off on “Bolshaia Pereyaslavskaia ulitsa” bus stop. Your destination is house 52-54 (yes it has such a strange no.).
Price range: 15-20 USD per night
PRO: Really great conditions of stay (in a hostel level), plenty of beds – I never heard they are full.
CON: Relatively expensive, necessity to use ground transportation.

Option #5 Hostel “Voskhod”. Altufievskoye shosse, dom 2

Take off the metro, cross Altufievskoye shosse, right in front of you - house #2.

PRO: Very easy to find, very cheap accommodation available.

Option #6 Hostel “Tourist”. Ulitsa Sel’skokhosyaistvennaia, dom 2

Metro station “Botanichecki sad” (orange line, north direction)
Take off the metro, you’ll see the television tower, Ostankino, almost the same symbol of Moscow as St. Basil Cathedral. Take the direction to the tower, you’ll see red big buildings – hostel buildings. First one on your way – the Head Building, the reception.
Price range: 15-20 USD per night, BREAKFAST INCLUDED!
PRO: Breakfast J, easy to find
CON: NECESSARY TO BOOK! In a week at least you need to fax your request on the fax.

Option #7 Hostel Sherstone 8, Gostinichnyi Proezd, korp.1 office 324, 3d floor

If you are going from any railway station just take a train on the Circular (#5) line towards 'Novoslobodskaya' metro station - there you can transfer to the Grey line (#9) and go to thenorth destinationstop-'Vladykino'. When going from the city center, take the last car of the train. Once you arrive in 'Vladykino' exit the train car and turn left going out the nearest exit. On exiting the Metro station there visa busstop near by(20-30meters). Walk toward the busstop and then turn left away from the bus stop and walk along the street that parallels the train tracks. You will be traveling west. The train tracks will be on theright handside. Continue walking and you will come to an intersection with a traffic light and an underpass. Continue through the underpass and upon exiting the under pass ony our left hand side you will see a slight bend in the road that passes several large red brick buildings. Continue down this road you will still be heading west. You will pass several small intersections. Finally the road will end in a "T" and there will be several small vender booths "kiosks." Turn left (south) the building directly to your left across from the kiosks is the Hostel Sherstone.Walk in the front door of the hotel and head to the 3rd floor where our friendly staff is waiting to serveyou. Total walking time approx 10 minutes. Sherstone's friendly English-speaking staff is always ready to offer advice and any information on what to see and do. Made up of recently renovated apartments with their own private bathrooms, TVs, telephones and fridges. Our hostel occupies the 3rd floor of the hotel and the reception is room #324.
